No Andrea, now beginneth the lesson. In the beginning Propaganda were not a 'live' band, so, for the first ever gigs, which in that clip, was one of fourteen we played at the Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End for a ZTT show, which included Art of Noise, Paul Morley, Andrew Poppy, Chris Langham ( f****** perv) and a host of others. I had just been bumped from the Minds, so I was contacted through my SM manager Bruce Findlay, by Keith Bourton, who used to be the press officer at Virgin Records, and was now manager of Propaganda. He asked if I would do the live shows with Propaganda in London, to which history shows, I agreed. The drummer you see there is Steve Jansen from the band Japan, and I am sure Brian would be more than flattered to be compared to Steve in the looks department. He is possibly the coolest character I have ever met. It was like sharing the stage with a young Elvis Presley.
Steve stayed with the band for about 5 or 6 months, then went on to form the Dolphin Brothers with his old keyboard player fro Japan. I contacted Brian McGee after that, and the rest is history. Now endeth the lesson.

Thank you for that Derek! History lesson yesterday....music lesson today ....you are educating me so well darling (hope you don't want paying )
To be honest I couldn't tell if that was Brian or not but thanks for telling me about the young Elvis double I will have to look him up (you know me being a wee young thing Japan are a band a little before my time.... )

Just another wee fact Andrea. Steve Jansen is David Sylvian's brother...does that mean anything to you?
Japan all took their names from the New York Dolls, apart from the keyboard player.
Steve Jansen = David Johansen
David Sylvian = Sylvain Sylvain
Mick Karn= Arthur Harold Kane _________________ the once and future King |
