Well, what a week!!!
Darvel Music Festival went swimmingly, not!!! It had some great moments and some not so great moments. Things can only get better, as someone once said.
I intend to make Braehead Arena gig, 'Back to the Eighties', the last gig for fourgoodmen, as it's time to move on, but don't worry, I will carry on with a few of the regulars, and some new additions.
I phoned Ian Donaldson, & Jane Button, to ask them if they would accept my apologies, and return for the last show. Ian said yes, but then changed his mind when the prospect of sharing the stage with another singer was proposed. I thoroughly understand, and sincerely wish him all the best. Jane had something else on, and couldn't make it, ...well, I did try!!!
It has been a great adventure with fourgoodmen, and we have had some amazing musicians in the band, and drummers, and singers...We went to America,Canada, we went to Holland, we sneaked into England, Ireland and the Highlands and Islands, we played Retrofest twice, we played Back to the Eighties, we supported the Pretenders in New Jersey, we played Hollywood, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Diego, Boston, Washington, Montreal, Toronto, New York, Springfield, (Massachusets), we met all sorts of stars on our journey, and had a jolly good time.....oh well, every good thing has to come to an end at sometime...
I thank everyone involved: Ian Donaldson, Jim Prime, Steve Harris , Malky Button, Jane Button,Kirk Brandon, Mick MacNeil, Carrie MacNeil, Bruce Watson, Graeme Duffin,Deke,Yvonne McHugh,Smiley,Rick Shore, Frank Gallagher,John Gouveia, Richard T Shirt Bloke,Warren 'Woz' Wilson, Chris Bell, Phil Kane,Frank O'Hare, Alex MacNeil, Kai Forbes, Jamie Watson,Max MacNeil,Ben MacNeil, Davie the Roadie, Mark Mackay, Ashley Corr, Sandy and Ted at FML, Chrissie Hynde, Gail Colson, Brian McGee and Owen Paul...and last but not least Ted Finticle, Frank Hafferson and the one and only James 'Moisture Man' Newall
thanks for listening
Derek Forbes

What to say - I´m a bit shocked and it`s really sad to hear that !
You have given me a very special time on Dec. 4th 2008 - I`ll never ever forget that ! And I`m soooo glad I´ve met you all at the Classic Grand and even Mick at the Square Peg !
Thanks for this !
Hope to see you out there somewhere again !

Just to echo what Will has posted. I am also gutted but not really surprised given the events over this year. It looks like I may not get to see Fourgoodmen for that final time, but who knows. I am sure that our paths will cross as they always do - Derek and James, I am sure I'll catch up with you on the Alarm front shortly. Let's have a drink for the good times (I still owe you that pint from the Spear gig at the Barfly last September!)
What are we going to do post-Christmas now? Those Glasgow weekends have become legendary! I am sure that something will be sorted out for then among the posse who wish to keep the tradition going. I am sure that contacts will be kept and something will come together to those who want to make the trip to wherever we gather.
I take it that this forum is on borrowed time. Can you give some indication to when it's due to expire.
Here's to everyone who has ever been involved on the Fourgoodmen front. It's been a blast. Thanks again - every mile covered has been so worthwhile..

My original intention with the band was to put on a Xmas show for all the musicians around , who were off for the festive period. I fully intend to keep the Xmas tradition going, so don't hand in your bus passes yet.
p.s. Shirl, we will have a forum, when this one goes, and will let you all know at the time, so no-one loses contact...don't worry...

Just got the news and I must say that I am very sad as well..........I am sorry for not being up to date as things have been crazy with me between work, buying a house, and the whole move thing as well as becoming a full Canadian again (giving up my US green card).....
I kinda figured the band was disolving after the departure of Mick but not really sure what happened........I hope it was nothing big.....
anyway.......Derek please keep us up to date on what you are doing and dont lose us "in the shuffle".........
Its a sad time but i am sure whatever you do in the future will kick ass and that we will be there!!
Thanks for the great times and music........and now awaiting patiently the next projects!!!
cheers again.....
Brad

Only just managed to get to the forum (sorry!) read the e-mail early this morning but got to be honest did expect it. It's really sad it has to come to an end but we are also so glad we had the chance to share in the experience of Fourgoodmen over the last few years. It has been an honour and we really hope we can keep in contact with the good friends we have made through supporting you.
Here's to the next adventure guys..on wards and upwards as they say...we will certainly be around at Xmas (particulary post 11th December Mind's gig) So count us in on any gig plans please and friends keep in touch
Hopefully see you in da 'pool again soon Del boy!!

Bleedin' typical! I just joined this forum before xmas and its all gone pete tong!!!!
Enuff about this Del.....Big Del- I only managed the last 3 gigs and the 2 Classic Grand gigs were brilliant. I'm saying hee-haw about the Darvel gig 'cept it introduced me to JJ Gilmour and i'm grateful for that. From what i've picked up from the forums, i'd say, yeah, the 4GM had run it's course. Big Dan shouldn't be in a 'low-key' band playing wee dates here and there....Time to think BIG! Get the teuchter back into the fray....Big keyboards...big BASS!.....Big drums.....Think Love Song crossed with Murder of Love with a splash of Trans Europe Express..Thats where to go, brother . I'm no going to the Braehead gig...i mean, Ben Vol-et-Vent Periodpain, Brother Feckin Beyond, Go West!!!! sorry, i couldn't sit through all that! Just keep us all informed and we'll be right behind whatever project you go with.
Make your stay short ! _________________ "This wans fae yer auld da..." |

Well well well...
Its really sad to read this, but as everyone else said, it was rather expected after all.
We have had a really good time together, here, in the chat (back in the good old days ) and of course at the gigs.
It has been a pleasure to meet and to speak to all of you, and i know we will all met again!!
Thanks for everything so far Derek!

Steely Del...do I have your permission to retire?
Don't worry , musically, I want to make a challenge. I am already on at Brian McGee to hit me with some drum takes, and I can take it from there in the studio...it's going to be great.....YESSSSS
