A Question For DerekI found this question on the Babylontalks.com forum.. No-one has posted any further answers to this, so it would be good to have a response from Derek. I'm sure he can clarify how he and Kirk met.
"Did SOD ever support Simple Minds, I can't remember that but a "Minds fan" tells me they did and when Simple Minds finished, Spear came back on for another half hour"
The reply on the forum was:
"well maybe thats how KB and Derek Forbes got to know each other for the SPQR/fractured leg sessions ? and of course later for the Evil Spear!"

Simple Minds supported Bruce Wooley at the Music Machine in Camden. The band who supported us at that gig was Kirk's first band , I think they were called the Wolfpack, or something similar. I will call him and find out for sure. I met Kirk through my great mate Ray McVeigh, who was in the Professionals with Cook and Jones from the Sex Pistols. We,( Kirk , Ray and myself, along with Jimmy Pursey , Hugh Cornwell, Joanna Lumley , Rula Lenska, Dennis Waterman, my lovely wife , Amanda Dickinson and Brian McGee's brother Owen Paul, and a host of others recorded a song and video for 'Elefriends charity' to help the plight of the African elephant. Since then, I have been a great mate of Kirk.

Thanks for the clarification Derek.. I thought the Simple Minds/Spear gig was a bit of a strange one, as I thought I would have heard of it by now, and would probably have been there had it happened!!
I'll post your reply on Babylon.talks if that's ok..

Could you make sure you use the correct name of Kirk's first band, as I have just this minute remembered it. It was ' the Pack '.

Hi Derek - This was the response from your answer.
"Thanks for the info Mark D and Sintelliner,
You could ask Derek Forbes about his project wiv Kirk-It would be great to hear about SPQR and wot the sessions (The Fractured Leg sessions?) were like and wot songs they had planned, even wot they had planned generally. You can also tell him he was a great addition to Spear when he was playing wiv them a few years ago. That Spear line up really rocked the joint when I saw them at the Islington academy in 2005. Spear always rock the joint but They were really full on !"
(I'm Sintelliner on the Babylontalks.com forum)
