Big Country

Went to see them at the Garage on Friday. Wasn't sure what to expect without Stuart, but it was a great gig. Tony Butler did very well on vocals as did Bruce, and the whole place was jumping.

Don't think I've ever been to a hotter or sweatier gig Shocked

ALI BIN TABNAB

Ere, ya can't beat a bit o' Stylistics to wipe away those 70's disco cobwebs.
I remember seeing a video of theirs on VH-1 a while back and decided to check the youtube vaults to see if it was in there. Well, it certainly was...and another trip down memory lane was had. You've just gotta check this one out Shocked

The video was shot on the roof of a skyscraper on a rather windy day. Check out those 30lb afro's Shocked Hang fire when the video starts though, and the camera pans towards the band. Hey, a nearly saturated me breeks when a clocked those bouffants Laughing Laughing I swear one of them is wearing a motorcycle helmet, the fella with the pork-chop side burns. Musta left eez Kawasaki 750 in the car park, he he he.

PS. Andrea....surely that clip has decided it for you Wink
AFARR

Wow what sex gods.... you wont be able to keep me away now..... Surprised Laughing (I think I need to get my mate a doctor Laughing )

To be truthful I did see half of one of their Liverpool gigs with her many moons ago and I had a fantastic singalong (but I had been on the pop all day so can't remember much apart from the venue bar Laughing !!) As Ash says you cant beat a bit of cheesy 70's disco (even though I am far too young to remember them the first time Wink) Decision made ... think I'll send my Mum instead Laughing !!

Now it's just a trip up to Glasgow or Big Country??? Confused
Jean Genie

I wouldn't rule out a BC gig in Liverpool at some point, Andrea. I'm still planning on the October meet up.. Not just for SSM fans btw, also for those from this place!! Manchester will have to wait for another day.. I'll be there for Pike Meters and his gang on 1 December!! Smile Wink

affar, you're right about dollar, mirror mirror possibly one of the best pop songs of the eighties, really, of course it's by trevor horn, he knows his stuff as he showed when he took on the minds to create possibly their best album to date.
sorry, no error for the second one though, a massive piece of stilton there eh!(apart from the song unforgetable fire, a stroke of genius, their one moment of brightness.

Laughing Laughing must admit U2 are not the U2 I loved in my younger years. "Unforgettable Fire" is my favourite track and I love albums like "Boy", "October" and "War" as well as of course the latter album. Got to be honest though they did go off the boil for me after "Rattle and hum" when I swapped my alegance Wink But they do put a out a good dity now an again you must admit! Very Happy

afarr, got to admit u2 do good album tracks (god part2) and they seem to pull off other peoples songs very well (helter skelter, help, unchained melody, dancing queen etc) although no band can go wrong with beatkes tracks , maybe 4gm can do a beatles song. i'm sure u2 done ' i love, you love' by gary glitter, check out martin gore doing it!. mr glitter! how the mighty fall! used to be one of my hero's, it really saddened and shocked me finding out what he'd done..

afarr! what does it mean Question i'm puzzled Shocked
AFARR

Hi Billy

Glad you don't totally hate them I agree some of the album tracks are the best. I blame most of it on media hype- we end up sick of hearing particular tracks.

What a good idea - maybe at the Cavern in Liverpool too Wink ...please Very Happy !!

Well, me and William tootled off to Newcastle last night for the Big Country gig. What a show, brilliant! The venue, although quite small, was packed out and even now me little ears are still ringing Shocked

Bruce Watson on vocals...I never knew he could sing! A great voice, and Tony Butler done well on lead vocals too. The crowd were jumping all over the place and it made me realise that BC still have a lot to offer. A great set. I recorded a couple of songs on me lil' camera so I'll try and get them up on youtube in the next few days. I was filming 'The Teacher' and decided to stop half way through to save some memory space. About ten seconds after stopping the recording Tony Butler fell straight on his arse Shocked Shocked Shocked . Musta slipped on his sweat, which was running off by the bucket load. He took it well though, just laughed it off. At the end of the song Bruce said to the audience 'As ya can see folks, Tony does all his own f*cking stunts on stage' Laughing Laughing

A great show, must see them again soon. Cool
billy

wow, what a show Twisted Evil Exclamation don't think i've been to a louder gig, ears were knacking Shocked
Big Country know how to put a show on, first time i've seen them, new stuff is very good, roll on the live album, i'd recommend anyone to catch them now

Why on earth did'nt 4gm or sons of dan get in on the support act for Big Country, i think they missed a golden chance at some great exposure & if a release was out they could of built a bit of momentum up on a tour with BC.
Just a thought.
ALI BIN TABNAB

Aye, that support bloke was cack eh. He kept singin' about blow jobs and slimy stew (whatever that is). Decent crack atween the songs but the washboard routine done very little to get me going. Billy couldn't keep eez sel away from the barmaid so a dint knar whether he seen the support gadgey Laughing
