Blondie, Bunnymen, 10cc and China Crisis - in one weekend!

Hi folks

Now my energy levels are starting to return I thought I would post to let you know how my gig marathon went this weekend!

First thing on Friday me and my mate dashed up to Edinburgh to sit in the p***ing down rain (dressed in illuminous bright orange tent capes - what a sight Laughing ) in Edinburgh castle tattoo seating to watch Blondie supported by Echo and the Bunnymen! Of course the sun wasn't cracking the flags but me and my mate Rachel didn't mind as we had such a great time (although we did end up a bit soaked to say the least which put a dampners on the after show partying hence the cold now!!). First up the Bunnymen! Listening to Macca (Ian McCulloch) droan on half cut in my local scouse/Liverpudlian lingo was so funny (don't think the locals could understand him - we were having enough of a problem Laughing ) The best was when he forgot the words to "Killing Moon" - couldn't stop laughing - Macca always does it in style! After just under an hour of singing along to their class back catalogue (I love reminising - Macca may have been a bit bevied but he can still cut the mustard) Blondie came on and did a good hour and a half set. She called us all nutters for standing in the rain but then proceeded to give it full wellie through all her hits (and there are plenty!!) After a while we forgot it was battering down and the two telly tubbies got up and boogied in the aisle! What we must of looked like.... Shocked Paying for it now full of cold but it doesn't stop me... Razz

After a dart back down the country and a few hours kip it was 10cc and China Crisis and aren't I glad we made it! Gary and Eddie (China Crisis) were up first and were superb! The audience was made up of people a little older than me (i.e. mostly my ma's age!) so most didn't know them so I was "the one" up dancing on the side tier (Jim can't take me anywhere LOL) and I have got to be honest it made my evening. Will definataley be trying to get to their next headline gig as their set just wasn't long enough. 10cc were "good" and everyone else (including my mum) thought they were exceptional and I know they were one of the biggest bands but I have got to be honest apart from the hits I could have fallen asleep! Probably more to do with my hectic weekend than the music. They also did some 60's music that Graham someone wrote for bands like the Yardbirds which I would have normally enjoyed but couldn't wait for the encore of "Rubberbullets" so I could go home to bed!!

So that was the end of my hectic music week (and I took yesterday off to recover although I haven't as I have nearly lost my voice!!) Don't forget I started last week with The Pretenders and The Real People/Talkabout too! Think next time I best check my diary before I book all these gigs (no stamina lol!!!)

However I can't wait for the next one - hopefully Rotherham Razz I am ready.....! Razz

Ciao for now!

Keep us updated on the Alarm front. I'm also going to see Spear at Ashton under Lyne on 29 August, and Liverpool Academy on 31 August, so let me know if you want to go to either of those.

I'm possibly going to the Everton close season friendly match on 31 July against Werder Bremen, but I'll have to let you know for definite. Money is going to be a bit tight around then so I'm not 100% sure I'll be going. We'll definitely meet up for post match drinks at some point, even if I don't get to a match (though I am sure I will!!)

Shirl xx

The 4gm historians will remember the appearance of Kirk Brandon at the gig in Campbelltown. He was playing lead guitar with us before Bruce could make it. Bruce was tied up with the Casbah Club at the time, this is a fact, not a malicious rumour. I spoke to Kirk yesterday, and he was asking after everyone in the band.

Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil
