Comments on the Arches Gig

Just arrived back from my first experience of 4GM live. If I had to use one word only to sum this gig up it would be.....OUTSTANDING.

Everything about this was just right. The venue was great, the crowd were up for it and as for the band...they all looked like they had a ball. This is no group of guys (and gals) going through the motions. Those songs we all know and love were played and sang as passionately as they have ever been. As for the new stuff...well these young upstarts might just be going somewhere. Heart of Wonder has to be up there with the most uplifting songs ever wrote by a Scottish act.

Top 5 highlights from an outstanding event.

1. Theme for Great Cities. Forbes, MacNeil and Smiley in perfect harmony.

2. Dream to Sleep. Ian - a classic that will never die

3. Bruce's suit. Do River Island do that number in a size 34 waist?

4. DYFAM. What a finale. Nice to see a couple of the young team up there on this number.

5. Excuse me while I indulge a little. The two lassies were fantastic (and Jane!).

Anyway, should be receiving my CD through the door any day now. That will keep me on fire until the next time 4GM pass this way.

Don't wait to long folks. You were OUTSTANDING.

brianf72,

Thanks for the update. I saw 4GM in Sna Diego, California and had a similar experience. However, they didn't play Theme For Great Cities...lucky you. Glad you enjoyed the show.

Take care.

Brian - I'm a forty-something who's new to posting on forums, so forgive me if I mess up.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said in your message about tonight's gig. I enjoyed it and was on such a high afterwards I couldn't get to sleep when I got back! So I thought I'd put my insomnia to good use.

All 4'11" of me was on my feet in the middle of the back row of the tiered seating as soon as 4GM started the intro to Waterfront and I danced and sang my way through the whole gig. I loved Simple Minds when I was younger, and remember fondly the big gigs I went to, including Ibrox and SECC. I also liked Big Country and remember H2O and Propaganda. TO hear so many good songs one after the other is a real treat.

I've been lucky to see 4GM 3 times before, including the Special Olympics Glasgow Games 2005 Closing Ceremony and Volunteers' Party gigs. I really hope to see the guys and gals a good few more times.

Bye from the hoarse one!
Will

Absolutely a fantastic night!!
What else can be said................
Superb night wich rawcked!!
Great friends(old and new)
Well done to the Sewdish contingiant.T-shirts were great!!
The meet ups, brilliant!! The after show hotel was an absolute hoot!!

As for the band,a wee wee sound problems but the band battled through it all like true proffetionals, the BEST I've ever heard them sound.
I thought it was a great touch to bring both guitar techs come on and play! (for anyone who doesn't know is Bruces son is his tech and Derek son is his tech)
Also spotted Micks son helping out Smilely,The additional rolls of the girls was excellent too,and Jane just seemed to be havin a ball,a smile as wide as the Clyde!! (2 weeks to go Jane?? all the best!! )
Photies will appear as soon as I can sort them out Smile

And...

It was fantastic to see Mick and Derek on the same stage again.
I finally found the "missing link" for Simple Minds that night

It was also fantastic to see Derek, Mick and the drummer alone on stage on Theme for Great Cities".
Someone Somewhere were brilliant and Love Song sounded just like the original.

A brilliant night, if you got the chance to see them, take it!!

I wasn't sure whether to add the 'other' photo's to the slideshow or not and in the end I decided not to, as the other gig slides didn't have any included.

Anyway, maybe I should post the group shot here...on our very own forum. Yes, maybe that would be best all round. Give me a few minutes and I'll get them together folks.

Just finding some time in-between beers to post on what was a brilliant performance from fourgoodmen (and 3 women) it’s the first time I have managed to see them live and I will be back just let me know where and when and I will be there (ok I will have to take the wife next time) the girls looked and sounded great, Bruce was blinding us with that suit, Derek was trying not to show he’s a true Scotsman, Smiley was sweating away on the drums and Ian and Mick were the cool brothers just a fantastic mix……….any chance of playing T In the Park this year????
I have a ticket….
