o.m.d. & simple minds on tour ...

hi derek !

what do u think about this combination of bands for a tour ?
is it a good choice to have o.m.d. supporting the simple minds ... or would it be better the other way around or as a double bill ?

i'm looking forward to read your honest thoughts about it here , m8 !  Wink

cheers !  Cool

Simple Minds were far superior to OMD in their hay day, although OMD were a great band, with a lot of hits...sounds like a good bill to me...and just like a pelican, they can stick their bill up their arse....only joking....

Omd got their start by supporting Numan in his first big tour after "Cars",
They repaid him by giving him a support slot many years later(the front two rows of the Glasgow gig were solely Numan fans(the cardigans held back from the 'weirdos')...so much so Numan snarled half way thru the set......."This is MY fuckin gig!! Smile
Andy is a good bloke...got a great anicdote from the hotel piss-up after that gig Smile

AAAHHHH some nice comments there , concerning myself. In reply to the 'Magic' not returning with me on Neapolis...I wasn't allowed to write on that album, all the songs were written in my abscence, before I got there even!!! So don't hang me yet, for not delivering. If sense prevails, who knows what magic lies ahead....

I first saw OMD in Edinburgh in November 1980, I think it was. It was definitely at the Odeon, that I can remember. I didn't get to see them again until they were on the support bill for Simple Minds at Maine Road in the summer of 1991. I'm quite looking forward to seeing them again at the MEN  in December - It's been far too long since I last saw them, and by all accounts it's going to be something special to catch them live again.

I saw them support SM at Milton Keynes Bowl and when they played Electricity there was a power cut Laughing

Ha ha.. nice one. There wasn't a power cut at Maine Road, though I do remember an incident with a low flying cabbage..  Shocked

And so indeed is my cousin, and fellow bass player in our new band 2 Bad Cousins, where I play Lead Guitar and sing Lead Vocals for two hours a night. Mr Dury now clears his throat...

I wanna be straight,

Oops, sorry, no, erm...wrong song (ahem)

Sex n drugs n rock n rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Ere, Ian Dury's niece once played for Rangers. Aye, Juxebox. Runs a hotel the noo. Dury's Inn.
simplymindless

i think its abgreat combination - the front man has more enegy than Jim Kerr at thios moment in time (and he was pretty mad back in the 80's too lol)
Also the Stranglers supportuing the Minds again is a great gig - I love the Stranglers and i feel they miss Hugh for support from fans, like the Minds miss derek.
