One Step Closer To Home - 2 May 2009

We are barely into 2009, and already plans are afoot for our walk for Love Hope Strength Foundation. On Saturday 2 May, Keith and I are walking from the Albert Dock, Liverpool to Rainford to raise money for this very worthy cause. (The walk is approximately 14 miles.) On the evening, there will be live entertainment at Rainford Labour Club to finish the proceedings off in great style.

My friend Kat, one of the trustees of LHSF, will soon be setting up a Justgiving page where money can be donated online. Sponsor forms will also be sent out in the near future. The total raised will be presented to Mike in a cheque at the Snowdon Rocks event on 4 July.

Further details to follow..

Keith and I completed the walk yesterday.

The day started off eventfully as we had to change our mode of transport into Liverpool. We were waiting at Rainford train station to find out from one of the guys at the signal box that the train we had meant to catch had blown at Wigan, so we caught the bus to St.Helens then caught the train from there to Lime Street. After a walk down to the Beatles Quarter, we had a brekkie in The Welkin Wetherspoons pub. We walked through Liverpool One to the Albert Dock to mark the official start of the walk. We set off at 11.50am, and started to make our way back into the city, through Whitechapel, onto Old Haymarket and through to Vauxhall Road. The route continued through Scotland Road as we made our way to Everton Valley. We called for a drink at The Abbey, a pub not far from Goodison Park, and watched part of the Boro v Man U game. After 40 mins or so we continued on, past Everton's ground, and onto Walton Lane. We got out of the sun at Walton Hall Park, where we walked for a short while  - the sun had been beating down all day, and it was good to get in the cool shade of the trees there. We continued on as Walton Hall Avenue became the East Lancashire Road and led us towards the McDonalds by the Showcase cinemas. We stopped there for an early tea, before setting back off up the road towasrds Croxteth and the Knowsley Industrial Parks. We took a turn off into some old track roads which cut the journey (usually). We turned up Hewitts Lane, then onto the Old Coach Road. We somehow misjudged the distance on the OCR, and turned off too earlier. What we thought was Dairy Farm Road initially turned out to be Mossborough Hall Lane (Must have been the sun getting to us  Shocked  Cool ) and we were really stuggling and almost beyond the point of no return by the time we had got past the old hall. When we got to the bottom of the road, we made a decision to call time to the walk there. We had made it back to Rainford, although some way from the club where we had intended to finsih initially. We had managed to walk the distance set out though, and probably a few more miles on top of that.

Thanks to everyone who supported us on this. We know we have raised over £200 for the Love Hope Strength Foundation, and we look forward to giving Mike the cheque soon.  Very Happy

The club do was cancelled as we didn't have the time to put it together in a way that I would have been happy with. We will however arrange something for LHSF there some time later in the year..  Smile

Ha ha.. funnily enough I've got a fondness for Sheffield. Seen two great gigs there this year with Ultravox and Spear, and hopefully there'll be more to come before the year's out..  Laughing
