Peter Gabriel - Saturday 23rd Hyde Park

We went to see the great man perform last night (i mean on stage - Playing MUSIC - lol).

Apart from buckets of rain about 1 hr before he came on stage - (yep, just as bad as the rain after the outdoor gig for Simple Minds lasy tear lol) - it was a really great gig!
Yep, you can see he is getting older - woth the silvery sheen on his crew cut head and the rather 'Lawrie like' waist lol - But his voice has not changed a bit - So much so that it looked effortless for him to sing all his hits.

Luckily for me, this was a Tour that had only been hurridly set up to co-inside with the 25th anniversary of WOMAD - so it was not to air play a new album, but to celebrate his career.

So this meant that he asked his fans on his web site what they would like to hear - In return, he played the most voted for tracks -
Increadibly lol - all his hits and most famous tracks were chosen, which was a sigh of relief lol - as SimpleMinds.com would have produced some strange choices from the local fanatics lol if Jim Kerr had asked the same question .

The band were certainly top class musicians - (which included his rather gorgeous daughter) - The stage and sound were excellent - but the lighting did not engage me (not that it was that important.

He has a voice that really is special - he was able to sing with such ease that it shows how much harder other singers have to work to produce a magical noise from their mouth.

So, after a great gig with all my favourite tracks played and the taste of 'Sticky Fingers Coctails still tingling on my tongue' i headed back from Hyde Park & Kensington, feeling happy to have spent a day in the Company of Peter Gabriel.

Thanks for the review Lawrie.. I got to see Peter Gabriel in Belgium when the Minds did Torhout/Werchter in 1983. Amazing then and, from what I have seen from more recent live footage, still doing the business now. Glad to hear you had such a great time.. Smile
