No matter what bass player plays along with Waterfront, they are playing along with a sample of my original bass line from the record. Does that answer your question...once more..it is a sample of me...got it always there ....Derek

Of course i know its "his masters bassline", but i wonder why its sample live both on 4GM and on the Simple Minds gigs.
Is it hard to play live or?
Maybe a stupid question, but i am not a bass player Shocked

Hi Patrik, I think it might be a practicality of using it with the introduction as the band are coming onto the stage at the same time..

I think I remember Derek saying that he had recorded 4 separate bass lines for Waterfront and they are ALL in the mix.The intro note which runs through the song is one line,and Derek plays the main line live.Watch his fingers on one of the recordings.They are definately moving.The intro is only one note repeated over and over,requiring no movement of fingers on left hand if ever played live.

Well its not a big issue, but i have been wondering. On the Dortmund dvd you can see Derek play the Waterfront bassline. But i havent seen it since. Its has been sampled on every Minds tour since 86 what i can see, but i might be wrong!

GRRREAT pics - thanks! (I really should to keep off the Frosties).

As for the bass intro on Waterfront, from a non-guitarist, how it's arrived at is immaterial. What's really important is that the result is instantly recognizable to the loyal listeners and appreciated by them, and I think that Derek has more than achieved that over the years. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (no I'm not talking about those LEGS this time), or in the ears of the auditor.

Loved to have been at this gig just to have witnessed the best parts of Themes (keys and bass) being played by the guys who originally played it.
I could have done the guitar too !! lol

Plus the glam rock costumes!!
