Propaganda - 1234Decided to plump for this on iTunes last night cos I couldn't be arsed converting my tape to CD.
I remember seeing this on the shelf on it's release and buying it straight away. I think it's a great album but not as good as Secret Wish or Wishful Thinking. The songs on 1234 are less mechanical and probably more structured but still a very good album.
I think My Wildlife is a fantastic song.
How did you manage to get the services of Dave Gilmour?
Looking forward to hearing this again.

Replying to my own posts!! 
Had this belting out the car last night and it's better than I remembered it to be. Whether it's age but I liked the mainstream songs more too.
(Saying that I never liked Real to Real when I 1st got it, but I now think that's a belting album.)
1234's still very Propaganda sounding, but just a bit more subtle in places.

For some reason this album did hugely well in South America...and I don't think it was just the name of the band either...' Boys From Brazil'.....
We were in McCartney's private studio at Abbey Road, which is up top, for 6 months recording the album, along with 1 year at the Woolhall in Beckington, Bath, which was owned by Tears for Fears.
add on Olympic and the Townhouse in London and another couple of well known London Studios...then Michael Mertens and I flew out Virgin upper class, ( which I named at the Hiroko Japanese Restaurant at Kensington Hilton, London, when asked for suggestions from Richard Branson), to New York to meet Bob Ludwig, for him to master the album.
2 years in the making, but what a 2 years. I got married to the lovely Wendy. We moved house. Wendy had our first boy Kai. Moved house again...all within that time frame....Nuts.
Dave Gilmour was turning up for a listen now and again, so we asked him if he would play the solo on my track 'Only One Word'. I had to learn the solo for the video, as I played lead guitar as well as bass with Propaganda, and the occasional keyboard.
Am I right sir?

Jesus!!! What's this? A Masterclass in namedropping?!!!
Seriously though, owning two Propaganda albums, A Secret Wish and 1-2-3-4... I thought A Secret Wish was the better album. Maybe the spontanity was the key ... after all, I often comment that the Blue Nile's "A Walk Acroos The Rooftops" album was their seminal work - despite months block booked in Castlesound with Calum Malcolm, whilst Ivor Tiefenbrun picked up the tab . I, like many, sat and waited (for years!) for the follow-up, "Hats" and sat, deflated when we played it ... ALL this time waiting and this is the best they could offer ... it was like all the tracks we rejected from the first album!!!
On the subject of Dave Gilmour - whilst not a huge of Fink Ployd - his collaberations with Kate "SNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOORT" Bush are magical!!!

Thanks for the insight Derek, always nice to get personal info of some soundtracks of life.
I guess a lot of blue eyed boys bought the album in South America???
When I played it the other day I got transfixed to Ministry of Fear, absolute belter of a track. Never really listened to that track in the past even though I'd see it as the definitive sound of Propaganda.
Sounds like you had a belting couple of years during the making this record.

Yeps, Herr Mertens is a genius, one of a few that I'll list as an influence.
I don't know what it is with these classically trained musicians but they can't half knock out a belting tune!!

Yea ...I think there was a wee bit of a 'Gordon's Gin' influence, as well as Ennio Morricone....but still, what a piece of music..
