Rotherham Story PART 2 - Sample Minds take the stage! So on that note - i will continue with the sordid details -
We had all made it to the function room - It was a good sized room with a massive bar - the stage was not huge, but large enough to accomodate the bands - luckily it was not large enough for the girls in the front row to start dancing on it whilst the bands were playing - lets face it - we came for the music - not another rendition of the stage show 'Hair' lol
The first band on stage was the Mighty Sample Minds - They strutted on stage like a band who knew that they were going to perform to their best ability - there was a good feeling in the air and the stage was set.
I confess to be a rather large fan of this tribute to Simple Minds and have no problem getting into my 'Zone' - Lizzie and the kids had already made it back - with lawrie being chased about by #The Animal# and Clynt, but Marcelle wanted to get involved in the Mayhem.
She happily purched on my shoulders whilst we waited for the band to strike a chord.
Already Lore and her following of Mindsters had prepared their knickers for chucking on stage (as seems to be the norm for this band - so i hear lol)
their is not too much to say about the gig - but lets face it - if their is a word to be said, i usually squeeze it out from under a rock lol
So
Sample Minds
Theme For Great Cities - started the ball rolling - Its a personal favourite of mine and justly had the appreciation it deserved. Marcelle was being thrown up close to the ceiling with all my excitement and the floor tremoured with each jump from my 'Slight 10 stone weight lol)
Book Of Brilliant Things - Then rang through the air - It happens to be another special one for me - I JUST LOVE IT!!! and by the looks of the crowd and the screaching sound of the ladies infront, it was rather popular with all the other fans too.
Promised You A Miracle has never been a favourite of mine - so i had time to shuffle off Marcelle from my shoulders and gratefully picked up Lozza junior to replace her - I was grateful mainly because Lore had been eager to have a go herself lol (you just cant trust these foreign women lol
Home - actually went down a storm - the only upsetting part was watching Donna, Regina, Aggie, shirl & Viviane dancing like Red Indians round a camp fire each time the chorus came ito action.
Up On The Catwalk - was Lawries opportunity to bounce to the high heavens - I spotted Marcelle dancing with Shannon at the front of stage, most of the other female fans were quitely wispering to each other, saying that marcelle had obviously picked up her classy dance routine from her talented dad - (no sordid jokes about who the dad might be please lol)
Hunter And The Hunted is another track that i cant resist - i was looking around at this time to see the crowd was certainly getting larger around the stage, whilst the bar was slowly losing its thirsty customers. Loretta and Foxylady had been joined by a few Spanish fans i believe, so we were getting rather full up at the front.
Mandela Day - Thankfiully for Dan, the band thought about profits and played this - it gave the football club a chance to fill the tills again, as many of the men used this song as a drink and pee break lol
Ghostdancing - Well i loved this song, but i think the Minds have slightly worn it down, but Steve was up for a party and the band played it like it should be - Full of emotion and rythem - marcelle was back on my shoulders, whilst POGO Donna was lifting both of us above her shoulders in honour to this great track
Stay Visible - is a great track and i feel the band our good enough to carry this song to its limit - The Animal had joined the party now and i even saw marnie and Shula pulling themselves away from the bar!
She's A River - is a song that i love, but found it hard to get into at the gig - so this gave me the opportunity to get hold of the camara and take some delightful pictures of the band. It was great to take photos this time, as usually it took two pictues stuck together to fit each individual member in a picture, but obviously they had been on a fitness drive
Oh Jungleland - saw the first signs that Andy Hamilton had gained enough beer in his belly to start believing that he was Jim Kerr - Not only did the glasses look the part, but also the facial expressions were beginning to show effect lol
Street Fighting Years - This song has great memories for me - I remember walking back to my table and sitting with Lizzie to this track, with the kids in the background, looking shattered but excited.
Celebrate/Waterfront - What a great version - Totally fooled me and im sure a few others in the crowd - Im sure i spotted a few chocolates being thrown at band members in appreciation, but not reaching many of them, as Simon was slirping them up like a bull frog with his long tongue (oooh Eeer)
The American - This is always a highlight for me - i had been at the front of the stage, but needed to be among the lads for a rumble - but when i walked back towards Steve, Clynt, Neil & Andy etc - i came across Simon and Shaun dancing as if they were auditioning for the Rocky Horror show - I cant see how the actions of 'The Time Warp' agree with this song, but their actions were good enough to make me stay clear of them lol
New Gold Dream - Well it was the highlight of this session wasnt it! Derek the Hunk/God/King Forbes joined the band and Kicked arse! The place moved into another dimension - He really is gods gift and just turns us fans into pulp (even us grown men lol) During the song i took more picyures - only to notice that in a picture it shows Robbo had smuggled someone into the building under his shirt - phot evidence will be made available roflol.
Sanctify Yourself - Is another great track from an era i love - It was strange, as i was still on a high from NEW GOLD DREAM but Marcelle and lawrie had joined me again, but sadly refused to be picked up, as i had become rather sweaty and probably unpleasent to smell lol
Room - Is the song that myself and Simon used to talk about each time we met - its a song that i thought i had discovered as a gem, but then found out that it was rather popular with far too many fans - i REMEMBER LOOKING BACK AT TWO GREAT FRIENDS FROM SIMPLE mINDS .COM - Alex & Alexa - it reminds me of them for some reason - probably because its so damn likeable.
It was a gig that i am so pleased i had the opportunity to watch and be a part of - I think many fans would have thought their money had already been well spent - but there was more to come!
Sadly this was the time that Lizzie felt that 'Daddy' was ready to go into 'Little boy' in a sweety shop mode and decided it was time to take Marcelle and Lawrie back to the hotel, before they saw their dad make a fool of himself in front of them with his poor dancing.

Oh, Lawrie darling you crack me up .
But you're right: I'd quite forgotten about the knicker - throwing; we should try and work out a 'refund' system for the knickers though... with all those gigs I go to, it's starting to become a costly affaire . Thank heavens I had to cancel my plans to see Bryan Ferry again in October: saves me a whole lingerie set LMAO

What are you two on about? With all those band members on that tiny stage, there was no room to throw ANYTHING on, not even lingerie. (Not that I would, LOL!!!)
