Sons of Dan

Regretfully, Myself and Brian McGee have  decided to leave Sons of Dan.

We both feel that we can't commit  to the project at this time...

We thank you for the loyal support you have given us

Hey Loretta!
The SoD gigs for the 4th Decmber were canceled yesterday, and if I understood correctly only the FGM gig after the SM gig will take place.
Hope to see you there again! Ain't no party without Loretta  Wink
ALI BIN TABNAB

I'd step in and help but I've already commited to the BeeGees tribute act.
Sorry to hear this news though.  Sad
dforbes

It will be fourgoodmen  on the 4th Decenber, which will be exciting, as the set list will be updated dramatically, and we hope to play some of the  new songs we've had in the can for ages. We may even finish the long awaited album. 4gm are strong as ever, and can handle any changes, as we have shown in the past. Anybody up for a late night party on the 4th December?

Can't wait to hear the new trax, have you on stage longer and the party after that  Very Happy .  Only a shame me and my friend don't have something before your late gig.

Maybe you could ask GD if Esther O'Connor could do a wee gig before you guys, that would be sooo  Cool    Very Happy .

Willemina,
my great friend Kirk Brandon is playing before us if his schedule allows, (which I am sure it does). He is one of Roger Daltrey of the Who's most highly rated singers, and deserves to be. Great compliment from a great man.

well ... whatever the future will hold for the sons of dan , 4gm & sm , lots of great musicians are still "out there" to play live & record new songs - either together or for other projects & bands , so we'll get something to look forward too after all , which is the best part of it then ! Smile

Can someone please tell me whats going on here?
First lots of talking about a reunion with all original Minds members.
That call went off.
Then a lot of Sons Of Dan talking, new songs, new album, playing old Minds song live etc etc.
This one also calls of, and on top of that Mick is leaving FGM.

Can someone please explain...

Here's another one for you.....Graeme Duffin has just thrown in the towel too..........don't worry...this is a new beginning..not the end.

At the end of the day, in my honest opinion, Simple Minds were at their core, 3 great musicians ... I thought that Forbes/MacNeil/McGhee (add Mel Gaynor to the equation on the last good albums) were the heart and soul.  Burchill and Kerr (IMHO to use a US vernacular, trailer trash) propped up the team.  I and MANY others left the plot around the New Gold Dream/Sparkle In The Rain era.

Kerr and Burchill were Glaswegian thugs that ONLY capitalised off the backs of the REAL greatness around them ... FULL STOP.

Sorry if you feel that way ... but I have a wee bit of insight into the characters.  The Scottish music scene isn't that big.
Roswell

I agree with you with regards to how talented Derek, Mick and Brian are and as most fans love the original line up and the great music they produced together, but I think Jim and Charlie are talented in their own right.
Willemina

Well thats the piss....first Mick leives then Graeme throws in the towel (I heard from him last night by the way  Cool ) although of course he wasn't a real member just stept in from time to time.  Now reading the few last posts I just hope fans are not going to have a go at eachother. This all is bad enough, me being a 4GM fan feels sad this is happening.

I am also very sad Willemina, but life goes on and so will the music no matter what the guys are doing or what band they are involved in Smile
Jean Genie

It's a shame to lose GD.. He's a great guitarist, and it was a priviledge to have his involvement with the band. I wish him all the best for the future. However life does go on, and as Derek says, let's see this as a new beginning. I for one am not envisaging the end for Fourgoodmen. As with Dead Men Walking, the line-up will adapt to change along the way, and I'm already looking forward to the end of year gigs.  Smile

I hope the 4GM aren't imploding!
dforbes

No Murray we aren't imploding.

I have spoken with most of the band in the past couple of days, and they are raring to go.

Mick had to leave for private reasons, which was not a reflection on the band, far from it. This spills over into Brian McGee and myself leaving Sons of Dan.

Graeme  was with us on a session capacity, as Willemina says, and was a good servant to the band, and what a guitar player..

Frank O'Hare is without doubt, the best guitar player for the job, as he plays every song, note for note, so much so, that if you closed your eyes, you would swear that the original guitarist was playing with us.

The new songs that we promised in the past, will now see the light of day.
You will see big changes, and, hopefully, you will all be impressed by, what will be, a totally new set....apart from a couple of favourites of course..

Are we still having that party? You bet your life we are ! ! !

And, lastly, can I just wish Kelley a Happy 57th Birthday on Tuesday

So Sons of Dan are no more?

Derek, not that it probably makes any difference, but I appreciate the fact that you make yourself accessible to your fans.

If Mick has "issues" behind-the-scenes, whatever they are, I hope they are resolved in the best possible scenario.  Whether 4 GM fold, continue or whatever.  The resolution of personal things come first and foremost.

If we support the band, we support the people, through thick and thin.  Nothing more and, certainly, nothing less.

Derek, as a final comment, get your ass in gear and post more of your magic for us to revel in on Youtube!!!

ALI BIN TABNAB

Aye, no need for panic, folks.
Things will pan out and kick on from there. We need to put things into perspective here and accept the changes. First and foremost I hope Mick is ok and that he regroups with 4gm, if and when he feels the time is right.

Nothing lasts forever does it. If changes are to be made then so be it. I'll take the positives from this and look forward to what lays ahead with 4gm and the new songs that are in the pipeline.

Degsy, thanks for interacting with the fans on here. Your posts always give the fans the info they need and although no-one from the band is obliged to participate in this forum, it's always nice to see you making the effort, even if the others don't. Yes, I think another youtube upload should be considered, when time permits.  Wink

Hi guys

I don't usually like being involved in all of this.. Shocked  but being at the 1st EVER 4GM gig (under another name) I'd like to say that Mick wasn't playing at it, it was Dougie Vipond from Deacon Blue.
Things change and people have different things going on in their lives.
So stop giving these guys a hard time give them space they usually if they wish come back together, just support them in whatever they do, it is all for you guys anyway.
I wish Graeme Duffin all the best, he did a cracking job for the guys. Graeme and his wife are lovely people I have the great chance to meet and hope his leg is getting better   Very Happy
Frank is an amazing guitarist and I hope to see more of him at the gigs

I have for a long time been a great supporter of 4GM and even though at times the set list was repetative it was the enthusiasm of the band, even giving other band members a chance to shine and oh! Del in his kilt (what can I say those legs!!! )
They always had you bouncing and leaving you wanting more  Very Happy
FOR THAT I THANK YOU xx
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEWW SONGS !!

PS If it wasn't for 4GM I wouldn't have met most of you MAD LOT!!!
4GM and 4MW will live another day

NOW LET THEM GET ON WITH IT

Sorry to hear about SOD and also fact that Mick has left 4GM - I wish you all the very best for the future Mick.  Had the pleasure of chatting to you a couple of times and you are a gentleman.

Im just glad that 4GM are still to continue.  Over the moon that Frank will continue to play with the bad, remember seeing him in H20 and thought he was amazing then, and just gets better.  Fab musician and another great guy.

Saw the Alarm supporting U2 in Tiffanys in Glasgow circa December 1983 ... they were okay-ish.  But, aside from 68 Guns, I can't for the life of me think of anything else they ever did.  Obviously not too much to be treading the stage in a bigger venue/same city 25 years on.

No, it was infact James Prime who played at the Special Olympics closing ceremony at Glasgow Green back then. Dougie was Deacon Blue's drummer. Didn't he once do the Judith Chalmers thing on the holiday programme on BBC1...he he.

Oh so it’s Del’s legs now is it??? That’s noted Mrs……………..

Now just for your information the alarm sold out the carling academy in Glasgow on the last two occasions they played, check out the website www.thealarm.com.
SM didn’t………. yes they will probably sell out the SECC in December but then the singer chap did do a press release saying the original band would be back together!!! did this help sell tickets……was that the plan……who knows………..roll on the 4th of December

dforbes

Here's an official statement for you Brad before our old friend in Boston starts posting it everywhere without permission...

fourgoodmen are playing both gigs in December as planned.

There will be a host of new songs,( originals ), as well as some of the classics, but it will be radically different to what's went before.

We are all meeting in Glasgow on Friday night to plan the shows.

I can assure you all, that the band have never been more determined to make the shows work, and to keep 4gm alive. The response has been incredible. Mick is gone. Long Live Mick. He has offered to help us out with anything we need...We miss him already, but we will soldier on, as you would expect...

Graeme has left the building too. Thanks for all you have done for us Graeme. It has been a real joy and priviledge to work with you....oh, and ...get your bloody hair cut... Very Happy

Great emails from a lot of our fans, encouraging us to keep going, and an especially good one from FFL....at this rate , she may get that drink from me...thanx Sandra x Rolling Eyes  Smile

Aye Ash.. you can't keep a good (?!) girl down.. Keith is just doing the middle one of the Alarm dates, though he will be venturing north to Paisley for Hallowfest to see the likes of Sample Minds and Monument (not forgetting Big Vern and the Shootahs).. Colin and Sheila will be in your neck of the woods on 4 October, but it's looking unlikely that Keith and the family Gibson will be there.. you never know though..
