The Rotherham Story! Far 2 long and boring! YIPEEE

Well, what is there to say - Knowing me! i would say far too much! lol

Firstly, this weekend had been planned, booked and looked forward to, for a long time.

Firstly i had been contacted by Dan and Simon, telling me about this rather special event but the whole weekend was growing week by week.

After getting the rest of my family excited about a trip to Rotherham (lol - that was harder than what you may think lol) we booked into the recommended hotel, bought the tickets and waited.

So was it worth the wait?

Well, if you read on you may just find out lol

Two pals who were going to join me - Justin and Dil - sadly could not make it at the last moment, but i was aware that a few familier faces would be turning up.

Firstly we met up with (MEET UP SPECIALIST) Shirl! she was accompanied by the delightful Keith & Shannon - Shannon must have been shattered from her trip, but was the life and soul of the weekend.
They were already tucking into pints of beer - but i declined (as always) and went for a delicate glass of Gin & Tonic (well you know me - never one to gulp volumes lol)

Lizzie and I had decided to spend the saturday with the kids and kept away from the Rif Raf ,arriving through the doors lol.

Our Room was increadible - it was by far the largest we had ever stayed in, with two huge double beds, massive TV - an 8 seater dining table and a family table to sit by lol - We could have lived in it! lol
The swimming pool was also rather special, with a sauna and steam room that was used to soften my southern skin lol

WE really did have a lovely meal in the Evening, at the hotel, only disturbed by the presence of Foreign voices! A large number of Mindsters had arrived and were already making the hotel their own.

Clive and Liz were discussing the menu with the cooks , whilst the Belgian Pose proceeded to shuffle tables about. Viviane amd Petra were a great sight for sore eyes! - they are always so lovely to me and i love having some banter with our Mindsfan lol
Lore and Sandra were looking very dressed up! very classy i must say. I had not spoken much to Lore before but it was easy to strike a conversation, as she was so much in the mood to have a great time. As usual myself and Sandra hardly said a word, but as always i enjoyed being in her company.
Bruce (Mr Shy Man) looked rather slim (im sure you have lost a good few pounds mate! i want to know your secret!!He is not only a great Simple Minds/Sample Minds site creater, but also a charming young man, who has time for everyone!
I was able to recognise someone who looked as if she had been pampered in the Health suite, instead of a long flight from New Zealand! Victoria was vibrant and charming - it was a pleasure to be in her company during the weekend.
On this first night, i was the only one wearing the SSM polo shirt, so i had a few people ask me if i was going to the gig!
At one point a very nice guy called Simon was talking to me - i mentioned if he knew anyone here and he pointed in the direction of a chap walking towards us - It was Brian, who looked very fit and relaxed. He was charming all weekend to all the Mindsters and gave us a treat the next day"

I had already heard from two of my best friends from my travelling - Regina and Aggie! We go back a long way, so it was going to be great seeing them on Sunday.

So after a good sleep and another 2 hrs in the pool with Lizzie and the kids - we walked into the bar to discover the heavy drinkers had arrived

Dan, Marnie, Darren, Shula, Animal, Carla, Regina & aggie had already started the mad rush to the bar! There was no stopping the rabble, but myself and the kids sat down and litened to the drunken ramblings commence.

Thankfully i met up with Roger (Roger the Dodger) to his mates lol. Roger and i discussed a few projects for the future and sorted out our night ahead!

So the afternoon was beginning to warm up and we had not even reached the Football ground! We had seen the Sample Minds band arrive - i tried to say hello, but did not get in front of the screaming girls (all of which were throwing their room keys at the band members!
You just cant trust the Minster girlies! But the band members just turned and said they had a performance to give to their fans and they required all their energy!
Thankfully the girls accepted this and lifted themselves off the floor to let the band prepare!

I was looking forward to getting to the pre-gig, as the gigalo's were going to be there! The hunky lads were already at the venue and supping the ale!
Steve Robinson looked well from his honeymoon! Neil was looking far too fit to be a Scotsman, Andy was looking like he lived in the South Of France with beautiful weather and Scenery )woooops! he does!!! lol) and Clynt!
LOOKED PISSED!!!! lol
But he was not on his own roflol!! The Animal was back in town and proved that he could live under water, by not breathing air, but consuming liquid lol

I hurridly escaped from the bar and was greated by the sound of Virgin traveling Mindster/FGM fans!

7. Phil, Beth,Andrea. Jim (Andrea's hubbie).Jo (AJ)
& Leigh (Jo's hubbie) - i had a chance to talk to them about Simple Minds & FGM and the next few hrs of seeing some great musicians.
Whilst the kids played on the football pitch and ran up and down the terraces, old timer Demon Ed arrived! Good to see another Southerner to keep me company - he was joined by Elise, Shaun Tranter & Simon (dreamgiver God) - We again had a great chat about past and future Mindster/FGM goings on! they are all such great fans and great friends to spend time with!

Well thats all the pre-gig mumbo jumbo! now for the good stuff!!!

oooooh!!! Owwwwww!!! Eeeeekch! maybe not! Lizzie has ordered me off the computer lol - so wait for part two! it promises to be saucy and Cheap!

with even more names to be mentioned like
. Alex & Alexa

Well, actually this has been edited, so i can carry on in real time lol

Well, where were we then?

Ahh yep!

So a few cherryades were consumed by myself and family whilst we watched the usual suspects get hammered!

Already Bruce was beginning to wobble and Victoria had to be helped off her seat as she was getting dizzy!

Thankfully i had my old chumster Donna nearby to steady the heavy drinkers - myself and Donna have always found it difficult to see why people need to consume so much alchohol to be happy! but we accept we are all different.

Steve Robinson, who had turned up looking a million dollars after his Honeymoon, was beginning to look rather ropey! at one point, Clynt suggested that we anchor his legs to the bar, as it looked like his tummy was full of helium lol

Regina and Aggie had already finished off their supplies of spiriits from Holland, that they had smuggled in under their coats! - and Viviane was asking for some sexy music to start pole dancing to?

Happily for me, Shannon was holding herself together and decided to take charge of lawrie & Marcelle - (to be honest she was fantastic with the kids all day) and she deserves a damn good clap from the Lowe family. They were drawing pictures and colouring in - i must say that i thought Shannons efforts were just as good as my kids lol.

At one point Brian walked in with Simon. Brain was so great all weekend, but i just want to say thanks so much for having his photo taken with Lawrie, as its such a great picture that i will treasure for always. He sat down and spoke to Shannon and Lizzie for ages, asking about the kids etc - He is a real charmer (hope he gets the chance to play with the band more often in a cameo role).

Dan had sorted out some excellent food which was devoured by the hungry crowds! Dan at this point seemed to be enjoying the moment too - with camaras flashing around him - he had certainly made sure everyone had a great start to the day.

The phgotos with the band members was obviously a highlight to the whole day! i must say that i thought we were all very well behaved and took our turns in an orderly fashion.
I even had the opportunity to take some photos of the Mindsters in the Sosimpleminded shirts! (rather cool i must say)

I think the photos with the band members were so special, that its hard to descibe how i felt. I never thought i would see these guys again - especially not in a room with such a great crowd of friends!

Well, the day was dragging on and the kids were getting tired and needed their Mauritian nap! (well Liz blamed the kids but im sure she wanted to have a little rest herself before the evening lol) so i watched them walk down the terraces whilst i supped a pinapple juice through a straw.

It was getting closer to the real deal and a few fans were beginning to dawdle down to the venue itself!

Derek & MicK had already popped off to get changed into their glad rags! Im sure Loretta and a rather Foxy lady had been hired by the band to carry their clothes (well they were certainly getting a good feel of them lol) Derek & Mick had really made an effort to spend time with the fans, but i must admit i was rather shy and could not think of anything sensible to say, so declined from stricking a conversation - (Well its hard to chat to Gods lol)

So what happened next? Who did what to who? who did who to what?!! All will be answered later! lol

My God! i bet you are already bored! But think about it! if you dont read on you wont know what rumours i have been able to conjour up about you all lol
Regina

Don't forget about the worst rumours.....Who didn't what to who? who didn't who to what?!! Even worse!!!
Lore

I have to say I was a tiny bit disappointed in Lawrie as about a week before we left for Rotherham, he hinted that he would introduce me to some nice bachelor SM fans... Wink , but he didn't Twisted Evil .
Hence, I'm very curious as to the rumours he'll be spreading about me LMAO
AFARR

Fantastic review there Lawrie you can remember much more than me (but then you were sober hahaha!) It was lovely to meet you and your lovely family too! Really wish I had found time last week to write mine as the Retrofest this weekend has killed even more of the few brain cells I had (sure its not the alchohol Laughing ??) Think I am getting too old for these gig marathons lol Laughing

Till the next time and hopefully my sad pc will let me into the chat room one of these days so we can have another good natter!! Razz

Andrea x
simplymindless

Well, thanks for reading the parts 1 & 2 - there is plenty more to go - so at least your guaranteed a good sleep afterwards, if not during lol

Now Regina - rumours are always a main feature on the Mindsters itinery lol obviously yourself and i are great at keeping away from such sordid affairs!

Lore - roflol - how wrong i was! all these lovely ladies floating about and too few men to devour your knowledge and humour lol I forgot many have already married aother ladies in the Mindster World or been devorsed due to the heavy Mindster life stle - so have no money left to enjoy these weekends!

Andrea - you are fast becoming an Animal of the FGM Kingdom lol 0 - it wont be long till you have ginger hair - a strong accent and a kilt around your waist lol

Lawrie in a kilt?? Are there any photos??? Smile

Actually, if anyone had said, I would have brought mine. I'm a Craig, so it's Clan Gordon, of course. And it is a proper ladies kilt, bought in the Scottish Highlands on a previous visit a few years ago.
Will

Buying a Kilt for my Wee Sisters wedding next june, used to hire one .Certainly attracts the cameras if you wear it at a gig, quite intrusive really Shocked
Loretta

I love a good kilt Laughing
Will

some people seem quite genuinely suprised when they click a digi-cam under your Kilt!!
Evil or Very Mad

If I did that to a girl I'd be arrested!! Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

I'm a Scot, what do you think I wear under a Kilt??

n.b. to wear underware under a Kilt is to insult(in want of better phrasing) the Clan members whom fell in battle in the past.
Pamie

Well I have to say....Nick Beggs insulted no-one Shocked

He showed off his crown jewels several times Very Happy
dforbes

Here's a we quiz for y'all.

Why is it traditional for Scotsmen to 'go Commando' under their kilts ?

Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil
AFARR

Because they are too tight to buy knickers ? Laughing Laughing
Jean Genie

Didn't Will answer this one in a previous post, Derek?

This thread reminds me of this little puzzler..

How do you tell what Clan a Scotsman belongs to? Look under his kilt - If it's a quarter-pounder, he's a MacDonald.. Smile
dforbes

I don't know if Will did answer this one. I am sure Will knows the answer.

Evil or Very Mad Harry Worth Twisted Evil
Jean Genie

He mentioned that to wear something under the kilt was an insult to those who had fallen in battle..
dforbes

no, it's something else
Lore

I thought that it had something to do with a military connection: when you're wearing a kilt as part of a uniform (which could also apply to bands), you don't wear any knickers... hence 'going commando'. Or is that just too obvious Laughing
Loretta

Once you have seen one................. Laughing
Willemina

Is this the answer Derek......found it in a book I have about Scotland Laughing .

Actually the "Regimental" as its known modernly is historically inaccurate.

Traditionally in the Northern parts of Ireland and Scottland where kilts were worn they did not wear anything under them since "britches" or underwear was not invented yet. In fact, modern underware as we think about it was not invented until the Victorian era...

When the English started pressing Scottish Regiments into service they were permitted to continue wearing their kilts though many of the upper class and officers started to wear true's (trousers). Queen Elizabeth was outraged by the fact the Clansmen were naked and had on occasion while inspecting the Scottish troops seen more of the men than she wanted to. So mandated that all Scottish Regimental soldiers were required to wear something that would keep their private parts hidden from viewing at all times.

Hence historically the term "Being Regimental" indicated you WERE wearing something under your kilt.

Many men opted to go commando under their kilts at the faires because it was more traditional, and wearing 9 yards of whool can be comfortable in hot weather, for some reason, wearing anything underneath causes more sweatting and chaffing.

Someone at the faires incorrectly coined going commando under your kilt being Regimental. Though its easy to see why they would use this term as its quite easy to ask this of someone in mixed company and the unknowning patrons would not have a clue to what you are really talking about...

No my pretties, all wrong.

The tradition stems from Scots on the field of battle, who had the advantage of relieving themselves where they stood, without leaving the battlefield. This would mean there was always a full compliment of soldiers ready and able to do battle.
