ULTRAVOX - WILL THEY OR WON'T THEY???

Are they getting back together??
Rumours are abound.
The best band in the world - EVER!
Fingers firmly crossed.

Ere Murray, any opinions on ULTRAVOX!
Did ya ever see them play live?

Great news. We supported them a la John Foxx days, and I am a great mate of Billy Currie, he even came to our wedding. More name dropping Murray...oops..

Would be great if they did, Billy Currie is another influence of mine.

Reading Midge Ure's autobiography it read there was a cat in hells chance, but I guess if the Police can reform any band could.

cheers

Hopefully it's not Ultravox with Midge. Nice man ,  but compared to Ultravox with John Foxx...sorry Archie Andrews, but you know it's true...Hiroshima mon amour...classic..

Mr. Green

what an interesting comment , derek ! Wink
( only fyi : i'm much more a foxx than a ure fan , but would love to see any of them front the full band line-up then ! Smile )

afaik , it will be midge , chris & billy only ... but sadly no warren , so they should have the decency to only call themselves "u-vox" - like their last & definitely worst album !  Twisted Evil

would i go to see them play live again ?
yes , of course ... but only if they come to germany or close to it , as the u.k. is definitely too expensive for me these days , sorry fellows !  Embarassed

my indeed hard earned two cents of the faqin' euro ...

Saw them in Tiffanys in 1980 with Midge, met them all after and they were great apart from Midge who was,to say the least, a trunped up little w***er when I asked him for his autograph
Don't think John would even consider resurrecting the band Derek, but next time he's in town I'll give you a shout!!
John and Louis Gordon are great live

Hi  All  Very Happy

My dad ran aboot with Midge's brother (crap forgot his name I'll need to ask him) anyway he gave my dad Ultravox's early singles my dad said they were crap Shocked  Shocked  and handed them back.... (I didn't get to here them) and then they became famous ..The morale I could have made a wee wad on Ebay  Laughing

Seen Ultravox three times in the early 80s.. Edinburgh in December 1980 and twice in Liverpool in September/October 1981. Excellent live, and the two albums that were promoted on those tours are among my favourites, Vienna and Rage In Eden. However, I also like a lot of their earlier stuff. Great to eventually see John Foxx live with Louis Gordon the other year at King Tuts. Hopefully I'll get to see Ultravox live again = it's looking promising  Smile

Furry Fanndabedosy Lady,
Midge wasn't in Ultravox till well after they were established, and his brothers name was Mr. Ure....

Never saw Ultravox.  Only really noticed them post-Foxx.

I wasn't that massive a fan either of them, but didn't find them offensive either.  Well produced videos.  Dancing With Tear In My Eyes was a pretty striking song.  And the stop in the Love's Great Adventure video, for Midge Ure to catch his breath, was a nice touch.

I recall reading an article with Billy Currie around 81-82-83-84 where he said he was often mistaken for Jim Kerr.  If I remember correctly, at the time there WAS a striking similarity between the two.

Bring back Rick Astley I say!!! Wink

Saw The Undertones in Tiffanys in around 1983.  They were all a lovely bunch of friendly guys, except that we tosspot called Feargal Sharkey.  He was ALSO a trumped up little wanker!

Saw them again in Amsterdam's Melkweg (Milky Way) a couple of years ago, with a new (better) singer.  They were MAGIC!  I pogoed my nut off all night front of stage.

MY friend, Sandra knew the Ure family, if she appears on MSN I'll ask her.

If I can find the 'Vienna' video , which was shot by Virgin A&R man Ross Stapleton, during the recording of New Gold Dream 81 82 83 84, in Newburgh ,Fife, Scotland, then I will post it on my friend Frank Hafferson's Youtube site. I play Midge, and Jim Kerr was meant to play Billy Currie on the keyboards, but laughter got the better of him. I sing,(mime), Vienna, with Mick, Charlie, Jim and Mike Ogletree sitting around my feet...it's hilarious. Midge knows about it. It was shown once at the Niteclub in Edinburgh. I will ask James to copy it onto dvd for the World to enjoy. It is legendary...or is now..!!!!!

You & I once had this MIDGE / FOXX debate after the Crash n' Burn JF / LG gig & I'm sure I won hands doon matey! Wink

I'm gonnae tell 'um ye called him a reliever!...LOL

For different reasons I think both lead men had their place in the band, but JF (Dennis Leigh!) was a wee bit before my time, although I did get into his stuff when MU joined UV...he's nae singer!
MU brought quality to the table, Talent, style, presence & made Ultravox the gentlemens synth-rock band for sure! Razz

I'll never forget Deggers comment in the NGD tour prog...yer a bad man, ya tiger wieldin' manic bass genious!!!...I've got your signature on the cover!!!
I  do think yer a better bass player than CC...what a crawler eh!

I've got a newspaper clippin' o' you guys supportin' UV at Grangemouth Town Hall!!!

God bless Heart of Midlothian FC

PS Billy Currie's better lookin' / better singer than Juan - Kerr

I didn't get to Manchester as originally planned, but did go to Sheffield the following day. What an amazing gig - wouldn't have missed it for the world. Here's hoping they keep the momentum going and continue playing togather. They have been sorely missed, and it would be a travesty if the Return To Eden tour proved to be a one-off. Here's hoping for more to come, and who knows, maybe even a Summerpops gig for them next year.. (Keeping fingers and toes firmly crossed!!)

Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

i also hope for some more dates maybe later this year somewhere in europe - especially in ( northern ) germany , of course ! Wink

sadly i couldn't make it ( once again  Sad ) to brum or any other gig , but from what i've heard , seen & read about it by others so far , it's a really great show , so if u still have the chance to see the vox live on one or even more of the few remaining dates , u certainly won't be disappointed @ all ! Smile

cheers !  Cool

Is the Lokeren date on 8 August a possibility for you? I'm currently praying the lottery win will come up, as it's the only way I'd be able to get there this time...  Wink
oh_jay

that one-off festival gig is indeed currently the only confirmed appearance of the vox i might be able to see ! *fingers_crossed*

but there's still hope for a european tour with @ least ONE date somewhere in or near northern germany ( hamburg , hannover , bremen , oldenburg ) later this year or early next year !  Wink

cheers !  Cool

Me n Billy were invited backstage at Newcastle City Hall. Met the band - twas brill. Had a canny chat with the maestro, Billy Currie. Derko - he asked me to say HELLO to ya.

You now know as much as I do.. I would think that they are in the UK but I could well be wrong..

Once I hear more, you'll hear more..  Smile

Yep, 10 in October I heard - all in the UK too.
Did DM tell ya, Shirl?
I tipped him off 3 weeks ago.  Wink
Jean Genie

DM didn't tell us, Ash no.. not to worry..

Must admit I haven't had the pennies to do anything about it at the minute with everything else I've got lined up at the minute. When are tickets onsale.. and for where??

ALI BIN TABNAB wrote:

ALL in the u.k. again  Question
why that ?  Confused

there are LOTS of fans in other countries too , who wait for the vox to play @ least ONE concert in their homecountry  Exclamation

if 10 more u.k. dates is all that we'll get ( this year ) , i must admit that i would be pretty disappointed indeed , sorry ! *sigh*
