What now?

... your new project 'The Other Simple Minds', does this spell the end for 4GM?

Tell ya what, I'll contact ya thru the address above, as requested.
Cheers, T

A good question indeed, T!

Following Derek’s decision, both here and on Facebook to withdraw from contactability – something that I, like many others found in the past a lifeline to the band directly, given the other members reticence/reluctance to communicate via the forum and other internet-based channels, where do Four Good Men and us, as fans, stand currently?

Do we go through the process of Chinese Whispers that followed Ian and Jane’s ‘dismissal’ at the turn of the year, the shutting of the website, et al?  Or do we have to make enquiries via the new management company, as Derek has suggested?  In the latter case, I can’t really see there being too much potential feedback forthcoming to ‘mere’ fans.

Or are we reading too much into it?

this does seem a bit strange - would have thought it reasonably easy to say something here?

Yes, it seems that some confusion has started. Obviously it would be best for all involved if we gave people the benefit of any doubt and didn't assume things with 4gm were taking on a negative slant. It's usually this forum where answers are given and matters are sorted out. But, if our questions are to be directed elsewhere then it seems that there's little or no point in asking here.

Now that's a pity.

Derek was the only one, apart from the odd appearance by Frank, who bothered to interact with fans on here. Looks like that has come to an end. What I find frustrating is that no explanation has been given as to why our correspondance has now got to go via a management company. Surely the fans derserve atleast that.

As I said earlier. I'll give the benefit of doubt. I just hope this latest announcement isn't another 'Head shaker' in the life of a 4gm fan.

Time will tell, but it sorta looks like a new project is taking precedence over 4gm these days.

Onward and upward, as they say.  Smile

What a weeek
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
Hello friends. You join me in sunny Brussels ready for Archives show here tonight.. WE did 3 shows in Greece last week and they were amazing so everyone is ready to go.. First night on the bus last night so there are a few slightly shady faces today..
Monday and Tuesday were quite incredible.. I was asked to produce a track of the Jail Guitar Doors charity.. so this meant I had the pleasure of Billy Bragg, Mick Jones and Topper Headon in my studio.. I was totally humbled when Topper sat behind my kit and showed me how HE played certain Clash tracks.. In all the years with Strummer I had never met him so it was one of those in awe moments.. Same with Mick and billy as they put down guitars and vocals.. They are both so distinctive .. What can I say.. It was one of those moments in life I will never forget.. and they were all beautiful people
The new Eskimo Project album..Once around the Sun. is out this week and getting great reviews.. Its a brilliant album and I urge you to check it out

So after Brussells tonight we move onto Luxumbourg tomorrow.. We are away for 5 weeks then Kerry gives birth 4 days later.. Can everyone please pray she isnt early!!.. So keep in touch friends.. I will check in with tour updates. Lots of love SMILEY X

Of the many projects he is working on at the moment the one which will please all the ‘Minds’ fans is his incredible show he has been working on with former Simple Minds drummer Brian McGee, telling the story of the classic early years of  the band.

Thanks for the update James. Great to see everyone keeping busy. I knew Vonnie was at Sabhal Mor Ostaig on Skye (think I got that, I'm not fluent in Gaelic!! I will correct any spelling mistakes!!) I didn't realise that Carrie was also busy with her studies.. Wish her well from us!!

Hopefully see other members soon. Looking forward to seeing JJ Gilmour soon. Kim and I owe him at least one pint for the help he gave with our bud Karen!!

Cheers for the recommendations, and news of who you are also involved with. Promising stuff all round..  Smile
Will

BUT!! and this is really the big one!!, are 4GM going to be putting on a traditional "post xmax/pre New year gig"

This has become a stable for years now,not only does it get us to see the band live but gives us a deffinate time for old friends to meet up and catch up and reminise and...well... I'm sure you know the rest!!

can't help thinking the 'implosion' has only been diverted from our view and all is not well 4gm side Sad
Pitty because it's been a GREAT ride so far,met many MANY special people, some terrific friendships have been made via 4GM....and for that I'll be etearnaly gratefull Smile
Jean Genie

I sincerely hope that there will be a 4GM or OSM gig in Glasgow post Chrismas. Kerstin and I are in the city that weekend already (27 & 28 December), and it would be great to have some live music to enjoy while we are there. Meet ups can be arranged once we know what is happening.
