May be able to shed some light on the mystery.. (pardon the pun)
I think Mel may have washed his hair - The red light that Mel is under looks like a drying light.. I remember being under one when I had a perm done in the early 80s.
Maybe Derek remembers the photo being taken and can confirm this??
