Great news Derek, I'm not used to staying up late, I'll drink some coffee!
I assume tickets can be bought on the day at the Classic Grand? |

Sons and Fascination? Really? All of it? (Or even most of it?)
S&F was the first Simple Minds album I ever bought.
I heard (and saw) the "Love Song" video for the first time, on TVNZ's "Radio With Pictures" late one Sunday night in nineteen-eighty-mumble, and I will never forget those few minutes. Along with most of NZ, I'd never heard of Simple Minds before.
I remember feeling an instant connection with the music, like someone had hooked me up to the national grid, flicked a switch, and the world was suddenly a much, much brighter, and infinitely more interesting, place.
So the next day at lunch time I raced down to the nearest Queen Street record shop, and bought S&F. Played it over and over that night after work, and then went straight back the next day and bought "Empires and Dance".
"Sons and Fascination" is still my favourite album. Ever. By anyone.
Wonderful news, Derek. Thank you.
(Oh, and I'll be going to both shows. btw, how do we book, or do we just pay at the door?)
Boing, boing, boing ........

Unfortunately Mick, Brian and myself were not asked to perform with the other two Original members of Simple Minds on the tour, but we wish them nothing but the best for the coming tour. We, Mick , Brian and Derek (myself), have decided to play the shows on that day, so that all Minds fans will have the chance to come along and see and meet us, playing, and at the aftershow party, which goes on until 3am. Yes it's a pity that things didn't work out with the Original scenario, but what a day the 4th of December will be for all our loyal fans. 'Sons and Fascination anyone?..... All welcome for the party of the year...
Derek
ps. The Xmas Show is also booked for the 28th of
December |
"Sons and Facsination" .. only the best album ever...

You can definitely pay at the door, or via the Classic Grand website and the usual outlet ie. Ticket Scotland. James will confirm all this shortly...and yes Elizabeth..you are sorted, don't worry....

Hope we can get the definitive date sorted out soon, as I'll need to make arrangements for my two 'kids' to go into kennels, arrange flights (I believe Sleazy Jet no longer fly into Abbotsinch?) and accomodation for the gig - could always batter a policeman after the gig and get ma B&B free, of course!
I've been back in Scotland 5 days in the last 9+ years ...
But to recall the glory days of Sons and Fascination et al? I'LL BE THERE!!!
[EDIT] Doh! Rule #1 - Read the thread thoroughly before posting! 28th December, that's going to be great! [END EDIT] _________________ BITE ME! |

Okay, flights booked on KLM. Willemina, I don't know where you were getting your quotes from but I'm paying €258 inclusive for the return flights (23 December - 2 January). I could have got it slightly cheaper (about €10 cheaper!) if I left at something stupid like 5.50 a.m. from Glasgow ... errrr ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Room booked at the SAS Radisson round the corner for the 28th December. Tried the Malmaison first, but, HOW F*CKING MUCH?!!!
Just got to sort out the 'kids' kennel arrangements and kennel cough shots and it's ALL sorted!
Is it easy to score hash, smack, crack, coke, speed, acid and ecstasy in Glasgow or is this a "Bring Your Own" sort of 'do'?

the 28th of December is the fourgoodmen Xmas show. I don't know yet if Sons of Dan will be playing then, but we are definitely playing on the 4th of December to coincide with the Minds fans being in town..
both shows will be excellent.. _________________ the once and future King |

I paid 60 euro for a return flight .
I just have a look around at cheap flights on the internet (Ryan Air, EasyJet) and you can get were you want to VERY cheap most times. I always fly with those two and never had problems .
And NO I am not flying rediculous times, my RyanAir flight on the 3rd to Prestwick is landing at 18:10 and when I am going back with EasyJet on the 6th to Amsterdam its landing at 15:30.
It is true though that all the flights around the 28 are more expensive then the ones in the beginning of december.

Willemina, it looks to me as though Ryanair only fly from Brussels-Prestwick and Edinburgh - Amsterdam for Sleazy Jet. I live 20 minutes ddor-to-concourse from Schiphol, so I ain't spending 3 hours travelling to Brussel's Airport to save a few Euro.
If this info is incorrect, please let me know, but have just looked on both websites. _________________ BITE ME! |

I am flying from Weeze .....Germany which is only 1 hour and 15 minutes from were I live (my lovely hubby will get me there). And yes back from Edinburgh to Amsterdam with Easyjet (my dear friend who is also my B&B whenever I am in Glasgow will bring me to Edinburgh Airport. . |

Thanks, Willemina. Well, a 5 minute walk from the door of my hut to the local NS station, and a 15 minute train journey to Schiphol and the same on my return, seems preferable to crossing borders to save a few bucks. However, that said, living where you live, probably quicker than getting to Schiphol for you.
Enjoy both the gigs. _________________ BITE ME! |

Hi Derek
Just to keep you updated, from those who have posted on SoSimpleMinded.com, we currently have 22 for both shows plus another 5 who have said yes for the late show but possibly try to do the early one as well.
I have just bumped it so hopefully some more will add their names in the next few days.
cheers
Tracey
